You ever wondered what makes a successful person tick? What makes them continue to strive to be better every day? How do they do things that seem grandiose to the average person in such a simple way? Well, I believe most of it is derived from a successful person’s idea of “success”. Because as most of you reading this may know, the idea of “success” is relative to the person. What may be success to you may be a bunch of bullsh*t to me and vice versa. So what makes someone successful? Though I can’t completely give you a thorough answer, I believe I have isolated 5 distinct traits that most successful people have.
THEY DON’T FEAR FAILURE
If you look at the population of the successful verses the population of the unsuccessful you will notice there is a dramatic difference in terms of fear. Successful people don’t fear failing. They don’t need to over calculate their moves because the risk itself is part of the prize. To the truly successful if there is no risk involved, there is no reward. They need nothing to be definite. They see life as a journey full of opportunity.
THEY’RE NEVER SATISFIED
What I’ve noticed about most successful people is that they are never comfortable where they are at. It seems as if no matter what level of excellence they achieve, they always think they can do it better. This is what we call ambition. The ability to strive for more. The truly successful know that life is about the journey not the destination.
THEY ARE PEOPLE CHARMERS
Please notice I said people “charmers” and not people “pleasers’. Successful people seek to only please themselves and in doing that they please people. They know that it is impossible to truly please every one without losing authenticity. What they develop is the ability to charm anyone in there presence. If you look at all of the public figures, celebrities, entrepreneurs, etc. you will notice that they are quite charming people. The people who don’t last never develop this skill.
THEY DO WHAT THE F*CK THEY WANT
If there’s one thing about the truly successful that I can pin point is that most of them have the tenacity and drive to do whatever they want regardless of what anybody else thinks about it. There’s a reason for the Warren Buffets, Walt Disneys, Oprahs, Michael Jacksons, and Kanyes. Bottom line is if you put them in a room full of sheep they will become the shepherd. Leaders do what they want. Followers accept that.
THEY NEVER QUIT
One of my favorite quotes of all time comes from the movie American Gangster (which is one of my favorite films of all time) and it goes as follows: “quitting while you’re ahead, is not the same as quitting”. WRONG. If you told that to someone of success they’d slap you in the face and then buy you a drink. Quitting period…is well, quitting. The truly successful are so resilient that they will never give up.
“You may be smarter than me, you may have more talent than me, but if me and you get on a treadmill together, there’s two things, you’re getting off first or I will DIE…it’s really that simple.” – Will Smith
