No wonder why the SEC gets all the recruits…they have flashy new weight rooms to impress their prospects. Alabama just finished their new two-story, 34,000 square-foot weight room this offseason. The bill? $9.1 million. Last summer, Nick Saban was quoted saying, “when people come to Alabama, they expect to see the best.” Well it sure is the best. Justin Bieber doesn’t even have a house that expensive.

On average, the SEC spends $164,000 per athlete. That’s 12 times more than they spend on a regular non-revenue generating student, 40% more than the Big Ten spends on their athletes, and 60% more than the Pac-12. So what does it all mean? It means that the success of SEC schools brings in more money. Funding for FBS schools comes largely from ticket sales, TV/Bowl revenue, and donations. The more success a school has athletically, specifically in football, the more they can spend.
