Arguably the best conference in NCAA basketball has split. Why? Because football reigns supreme in college sports. Seven non-BCS football schools have left the Big East: Georgetown, St. John’s, Providence, Seton Hall, Villanova, Marquette and DePaul. UConn was left behind, as they elected to stay with Cincinnati, South Florida, and Temple.

Those seven schools named above left to form their new basketball-oriented conference. It will include schools from the east coast to the west coast. I think it’s a shame that the best conference tournament is no more. The Big East tournament always takes place at Madison Square Garden in New York and was the most exciting to watch year in and year out. We’ll see what happens with this new conference.
