Brothers, Matt and James McManus founded Check Your Six Clothing company in 2009.  The brothers come from Minneapolis, MN. They wanted the Check Your Six brand to stay true to the counter-culture roots of streetwear, so they developed a small line of edgy, controversial, unique products.

But the story doesn’t start there, let’s hit rewind.  Back in the summer of 2006 the brothers had no money, no connections, and no experience. In the basement of their house, they started a small tee-shirt brand called Sanktuari (sank-choo-air-ee). Don’t worry, I can’t pronounce it either.  Armed with a backpack of poorly printed, poorly designed shirts, they went to local boutiques around Minneapolis trying to sell their products.

For a year and a half, the brothers did everything they could to expand their brand. It never happened. They lost money, time, and confidence in success. There was one thing, however, that the brothers did gain. Experience. They met valuable contacts, they learned what did and did not work, and they started to understand streetwear. That was the year everything changed.

At the end of 2007, after being told that their brand name was too difficult to pronounce, they agreed that if they wanted to continue pursuing their dream, they would have to re-brand. And at that point, Check Your Six was born.

Check Your Six, which is a military term meaning ‘watch your back’, held true to the brand direction that the brothers envisioned.  This homegrown, family operated, American brother dream team has acquired great success in the past few years.

Check Your Six is currently selling in all 50 states and 14 countries internationally.  In 2011 their brand was named #1 t-shirt Brand to watch by t-shirt Magazine.  Check Your Six products have been seen on rapper Wiz Khalifa, professional football player Reggie Smith, producer Nima Fadavi, and rapper Mac Lethal.  They also have been featured on some of the most influential streetwear outlets, including FRONT Magazine, The Hundreds, Oh Snapbacks!, and Swag Syndicate.
