Arguably, the two best teams in the WBC faced off last night: the U.S. and Dominican Republic. The U.S. was without David Wright, who was out with a sore ribs…probably due to carrying the team throughout the tournament.
A tied ballgame going into the 9th inning, the U.S. brings in Atlanta Braves closer Craig Kimbrel. Now Kimbrel is about as lights out as it gets, but…it is only spring. Kimbrel surrendered two 9th inning runs, that the U.S. couldn’t recover from in the bottom of the inning.
The Dominican Republic is the deeper team and the better team prevailed on Thursday night. There is the potential they will see each other again in the semifinal. The U.S. will play Puerto Rico next, and the winner of that game will play the D.R.
