Wide receiver for the San Diego Chargers Eddie Royal had to leave todays practice in an ambulance after he injured himself making a catch this morning. Initial reports say that he has a bruised lung and a concussion. Royal landed on his back after making the catch and went to see the teams medical trainers after the play. One of his teammates said that it was a great catch, but that Royal seemed to have gotten very far off the ground.

Royal was walking under his own power but seems to have experienced shortness of breath about halfway to see head athletic trainer James Collins. Once there he received oxygen, and some reports are saying that Royal was seen coughing up blood.

Other players on the team kept watch as Royal was treated by the trainers and some approached to offer support. Those that did come over where told that they should return to practice and that Royal would be ok. A group of players planned to see Royal at the hospital.

This is Royal’s second season with the Chargers, after spending four years playing for the Denver Broncos. He has had several concussions over his time in the NFL, but has managed to stay healthy during training camp.
