The stars, and the stripes have done it again!
The USMNT cruised their way through their group match against Cuba, and won 4-1.
The match started off slow with Cuba scoring their first goal at the 35th minute. In the second half things started cooking up. Straight out of the locker room, and in the 46 minute Landon Donovan is granted a penalty, and created an equalizer for the USMNT.
Shortly in the 56th minute, the MNT take the lead with a goal by midfielder Joe Crespin, then the man making his name known around the Gold Cup, and the soccer world, Chris Wondolowski helps the Americans secure the lead and scores 2 goals!
This ties Wondolowski with Clint Dempsey for 5th place on USMNT Gold Cup scores list. Landon Donovan, who recently just returned back to the MNT leads the list with 15 goals.
USMNT coach Jurgen Klinsmann commented,
“We knew it was going to be a tough match with so many players behind the ball. We picked it up in the 2nd half, and got the result.” He goes on to say, “Costa Rica is the first real benchmark for us.”
The Americans continue to lead Group C with having 6 points, and head into their next and final group match against Costa Rica on tuesday, July 16th.
The USA look to end this tournament as winners, and right now things are looking very good for the future.
