Recently news broke that Hit Boy was leaving GOOD Music. The producer behind hits like N*ggas in Paris and Clique announced he wanted to branch out on his own. Although he was in high demand as a producer there, he was getting looked over as a rapper. However, for his first song off of GOOD Music, he decided to remake Kanye’s new single, New Slaves.
Hit Boy renames the track New Chains with the subtitle “James Sommersett”, a slave who gained his freedom in 1772. Hit Boy changes the beat up a bit, taking the minimalist production and adding his own sound to it with hard hitting drums. Hit Boy is a pretty good rapper. This is probably the best i’ve heard him lyrically. He takes Kanye’s rhyme scheme on New Slaves and steps it up a little. Check out the video for New Chains and be on the look out for more from the ex-GOOD Music member. I doubt the demand for his production will go down.
