DreamWorks Animation has always been the closest competition that Disney/Pixar has. In 2010 they released How To Train Your Dragon which became a huge hit for the studio. They brought the property to the small screen with Cartoon Network’s Dragon:: Riders of Berk which serves as a bridge to the upcoming sequel, How to Train Your Dragon 2.
I’m always concerned when the studios bring their property to the small screen with the intention of producing more sequels. The fear is that they might dilute the franchise and by the time the sequel comes out, franchise fatigued audiences would go skip the film. Well another DreamWorks film, Kung Fu Panda made the same transition from film to TV to another film and succeeded, proving my fears unwarranted. The teaser trailer for the film does give it the epic feel which was missing from the TV show, and Hiccup (Jay Baruchel) will be pulling off some amazing stunts on his own, sans his dragon, Toothless.
The film also features the voices of Craig Ferguson, America Ferrera, Jonah Hill, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, T.J. Miller, Kristen Wiig, Kit Harrington, and Gerard Butler. How to Train Your Dragon 2 opens in 3D on June 20, 2014. Read more at PopCultureGalaxy.com.
