It’s no secret that the Los Angeles Dodgers have been plagued with injuries all season long. They have one of the most expensive payrolls in baseball, but right now it’s not doing them any good. The Dodgers sit 7.5 games back in the NL West with a record of 24-32. Don Mattingly’s job has been in question for the past few weeks and nothing seems to be going right for the club. Until, Yasiel Puig…
Puig got called up because of the many players getting sent to the Disabled List. He’s been killing it in the minors and all the Dodgers could hope for is any kind of spark. He provided just that. Yesterday, L.A. was holding onto a 2-1 lead in the ninth inning when Kyle Blanks hit a ball to deep right field with a runner on. Somehow, Puig managed to find the ball on his way to the wall, and fire it back to first base for the double play. What an ending.
Puig won’t be able to make up for all the players that are out, but he can provide a boost for the team. Provide some hope, some excitement, get the crowd back into it. Hopefully he sticks around!
