Platinum-selling rapper Ja Rule is in a New York City jail and authorities are saying he will have a July release date. Ja Rule was arrested for illegal gun possession and was serving most of his two-year sentence in a state prison in central New York.
Rule was released last week after serving the majority (20 months to be exact) of the sentence and went straight into federal custody for a tax evasion case. The Federal Bureau of Prisons says he has since moved from an upstate jail to Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center. The 36-year old rapper will remain in the detention center which houses prisoners awaiting court dates or having short terms left on their sentences, until his July 28th release.
Ja Rule admits he failed to pay taxes on more than $3 million earned between 2004 and 2006 while he lived in New Jersey. Wonder if all that time behind bars as inspired any new music? Guess we’ll have to wait until the summer to see!
