John Mellecamp’s two sons, Hud and Speck, have been involved in the assault of an unidentified 19 yea-old man. Hud, Speck, and a third person Ty Smith, are being charged for an incident that happened in the early hours of July 29. The three supposedly approached the victim when he was sitting on his front porch, they walked up to him calmly and then they jumped him. Speck Mellencamp thought that the victim had attacked him at a party that he had gone to earlier that evening. Eventually the victims roommates heard the commotion and came to see what was happening the three ran away from the house. As of Friday Speck had turned himself in to authorities and was released on bail.
The 19 year-old Hud is a sophomore at Duke, and a cornerback on the universities football team. He is also an amateur boxing champion and holds titles from the Indiana Golden Gloves between 2009-2011. Ty Smith is the son of is the son of Indiana University baseball coach Tracy Smith. Speck played guitar for his father when he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. There has been no word from Mellencamp yet in regards to his sons behavior.
