On Thursday, a long list of Polaris Prize winners were announced and conveniently, Justin Bieber was omitted and snubbed by the Canadian awards committee. Bieber has been complaining that people do not take him seriously as an artist, and clearly that’s true because he has yet to make it on the Polaris Prize Committee‘s list.
However, the awards are usually handed to more eclectic acts like Feist and Arcade Fire. This year’s potential nominees include ‘the popular electro-rock of Metric and noise-rock of Metz to electric powwow crew A Tribe Called Red and turntablist Kid Koala to the art-pop of The Luyas and the pop-pop of Tegan and Sara. Carly Rae Jepsen was not on the list.’
The $30,000 best album prize is voted on by critics, and Bieber’s 5 released albums have never been recognized. The short-list for the award will be released July 13th, with a gala announcing the winner set for Sept. 23rd.
Do you think Justin Bieber should be recognized by the committee?
