Of course Brooklyn is home to some of Hip Hop’s biggest acts of all time: Jay-z, Biggie, Mos Def, Lil Kim, Fabolous, Big Daddy Kane, Ol Dirty Bastard, and the list goes on forever. However, there’s a new wave of Brooklyn that are making a lot of noise. From everybody’s favorite young lyricist Joey Bada$$, to eclectic Melo-x, Brooklyn is active right now. With the track New Brooklyn off Dyme-A-Duzin’s latest mixtape, all the young Brooklyn MCs are coming together in a major way. Here are some of the new guys from Brooklyn right now.

Joey Bada$$

Young Joey is at the forefront of the New Brooklyn wave right now. With the flow of an Illmatic Nas, Joey is the hope for Hip Hop in the eyes of many pioneers like Dr Premier. And the kid just turned 18. Crazy.

Flatbush Zombies

True Story: I was at Afropunk in Brooklyn over the summer. I hadn’t heard anything from Flatbush Zombies before. But I saw a crowd of skaters, hipsters, weed heads, and everyone else in between RUN to fit on a small skate ramp just to get a glimpse of Meech, Eric, and Juice. As soon as the beat dropped for Thug Waffles, the entire place went crazy. I’ve been a believer of these guys since.

The Underachievers

These east flatbush cats are making a lot of noise in the same fashion as the zombies and asap mob. Plus they kill live shows.

Melo-X

Melo-X is a creator. He doesn’t any and everything that falls in lines with being a creator. Photography? yes. designing? yes. DJ/producer? Melo is one of the illest producers out of brooklyn right now. With his Zulu Guru project with Jesse Boykins, his romantic movement crew, and his own remixes of everyone from rihanna to Lana Del Rey, Melo is the hardest working man in Brooklyn… after Jay-z.

Taahir

Not sure if Taahir is more of a singer or a rapper, but he blends both talents together like Drake and Kid Cudi. The young Brooklyn kid is heavy on the menswear scene in NY. He has limited music out right now; But with the release of his Play Cloths hosted Mixtape, The Balance coming soon, Taahir is gearing up to make major moves this year.

Pro Era

first off, rest in peace to Capitol Steez. Second, yes there are more spitters like Joey Bad and yes they all do tracks together. A bunch of young kids inspired by 90s Boom Bap is always great.

Dyme-A-Duzin

Shoutout to Swank Sinatra. Dyme is a solo artist as well as the front man of Phony Ppl. The Warner Bros artist is a smooth rapper who can switch up his style on spot. He can boom bap flow with pro era or turn up with the zombies. He also keeps it smooth with Phony Ppl. Dude is nice.
