Staubach On This Date in Sports: December 7, 1963

Two weeks after the assassination of John F. Kennedy, Army faces #2 Navy in a stadium that soon would be named after the slain President in Philadelphia. With Navy leading 21-7, Army scores with on a QB sneak by Rollie Stichweh, the play would lead to the first ever use of instant replay. When the play is shown for a second time, CBS announcer Lindsey Nelson had to instruct fans they were not seeing a live play and in fact were watching a video tape replay. Navy would hold on for a 21-15 win as Army ran out of time on a 4th down play at the Navy two yard line. With the win, Navy would go on to play #1 Texas in the Cotton Bowl.
