The New York Yankees win an unprecedented fifth straight World Series. This one would end in dramatic fashion as Billy Martin singles home Hank Bauer in the bottom of the ninth inning to beat the Brooklyn Dodgers 4-3 in the clinching Game 6. Martin had 12 hits in 24 at bats during the series and would be named MVP. Three of the Yankees series wins would come against the Dodgers with another against the New York Giants.
