Dick Williams, who resigned after winning two World Series with the Oakland Athletics, agrees to manage the New York Yankees. Williams had grown tired of Owner Charles Finley’s meddling including his public humiliation of 2B Mike Andrews. However, Williams would never manage the Yankees as Finley successfully blocked his hiring, arguing he was still under contract with the A’s. The Yankees would eventual settle on Bill VIrdon as their manager in 1974, while Dick Williams would later become manager of the California Angels.
