There are a lot of things that writer/director John Ridley’s upcoming biopic of rock legend Jimi Hendrix, All Is By My Side has going for it. Andre Benjamin being its star is the biggest asset. However, there’s one huge stumbling block that has people questioning what’s the point?
The Hendrix estate didn’t sign off on letting them use any of the musician’s music in the film. Now how do you make a movie about someone’s music career without playing any of his music? Apparently, to get around the issue Ridley and company will be focusing on just the early part of Hendrix’s career. This will be a story on Jimi being discovered as a back-up musician and how he went to London and became Jimi Hendrix.
But will this make up for the fact that the film won’t contain any of Hendrix originals? I guess we’ll have to wait and see. Unfortunately, there still has not been a confirmed release date, but we’ll be sure to keep you updated as information is leaked.
